Admission Arrangements
Emergency
For emergency admissions of new spinal cord injured patients to the National Spinal Injuries Centre, hospitals should contact the ‘on-call’ spinal injuries team at the Centre via the Hospital Switchboard on:
01296 315000
Elective
The National Spinal Injuries Centre receives referrals from a patient’s General Practitioner - the patient is then seen and assessed in the Spinal Outpatient Department. If elective admission is required, either for surgery or further rehabilitation, patients will be admitted to St Patrick’s ward with the 18 weeks rule.
Planned Assessments
Spinal cord injured patients have life long needs that are looked after by the clinical teams at the National Spinal Injuries Centre. These include regular planned assessments to check bladder, skin and bowel function.
