Paediatric Rehabilitation
The NSIC has treated and rehabilitated children with spinal cord injury for over 40 years. In November 2004 it opened a secure dedicated 4 bed children's rehabilitation ward within the Centre for under 16 year olds. In April 2007 this was increased to 6 beds. The paediatric team received referrals from all over the United Kingdom and Ireland and provides:
- Advice to other hospitals for children initially injured.
- Admission for rehabilitation when the child is medically ready to mobilise.
- Multidisciplinary follow up from admission to adulthood can be organised in conjunction with local paediatric services through:
- Traditional outpatient attendance at the NSIC.
- Short stay admission assessments.
